In our new 1:1 series, we talk to women who are full members in our Pepperlane community about their business and how they use Pepperlane to learn, grow and solve business challenges.
Tell us about your business
Sometimes, you need a partner and a process to make powerful change happen. As a certified Leadership & Executive Coach I facilitate the process of transformation, helping my clients to: expand what they perceive as possible; discover where their own mindsets, habits, and behaviors hold them back; think up experiments to test new ways of being; reflect and learn from their experiments; and take action and iterate their way forward toward a bold vision.
I customize my services to each client and their particular goals. I may recommend one-on-one coaching, leadership retreats, team workshops, or some combination thereof, depending on what suits them best.
Have you always owned this business or what made you decide to start it?
I scaled a professional education business to 10 countries, taught design thinking and creative leadership to thousands of people, and worked with incredible leaders at companies like Cisco, Clorox, and NASA.
Then, the pandemic hit. Like so many others, I and my entire team lost our jobs. It was an unexpected, abrupt end to a rich chapter of mission-driven work with an amazing team I cared about deeply. After the shock, and a few summer months hanging out with my kids (when summer camp was no longer an option), I brushed myself off and asked, "What's next?"
I am 100% committed to building a balanced life where I invest in my health, wellbeing, family, and relationships — not just my work....I have met many Pepperlaners with the same commitment to building a sustainable life; being around them reinforces that it's doable and not crazy to pursue!
Like I so often do (and encourage my coaching clients to do), I experimented forward. I took some facilitation projects that crossed my path. I signed up for a class at the Co-Active Training Institute, one of the most reputable, rigorous coach training programs. I liked that class and took another. And then another. Someone from my past company asked me to coach them. I took on a few more clients. Then some more. I decided to get certified in coaching. I started coaching teams. And then one day, I realized I was not only a coach, but a business owner and entrepreneur! I joke that I was a reluctant entrepreneur because I wasn't searching for it, but here I am and I love it.
We like to say that everyone has a journey to Pepperlane. How do you use Pepperlane as a female entrepreneur balancing business with motherhood?
Pepperlane helps me in a couple of ways. It gives me a community of like-minded women to connect with regularly. This is great for my spirit, especially in moments where I am struggling with the ups and downs of running my own business. I've also hired Pepperlaners to help me with business infrastructure and skills that I need to build to be successful in this new chapter.
What do you struggle with?
I'm highly ambitious so I have BIG visions for where I want to head. Of course, I can't do everything at once, so patience, pace, and prioritization are paramount (and challenging!). I am 100% committed to building a balanced life where I invest in my health, wellbeing, family, and relationships—not just my work, even though it's very inspiring! I can't show up as a good coach if I am out of whack, and I really want to show up as a good coach. I have met many Pepperlaners with the same commitment to building a sustainable life; being around them reinforces that it's doable and not crazy to pursue! American culture likes to make us think the only path to success is working yourself to the bone. It's not true, but our culture can be very persuasive. Having a community that counteracts that pull helps.
How can someone best work with you and what is your core product offering?
I offer one-on-one leadership coaching, leadership retreats, and team workshops. I custom-tailor my services to each client or team after doing some discovery work to unpack the challenges they face and the goals they want to achieve through our work together.
Where can clients learn more about you or purchase a package?
If someone is interested in speaking with me about coaching for themself or their team, leadership retreats, or workshops, they can reach out to me through my Pepperlane Profile, or at email@example.com. We'll unpack their current goals and challenges, I'll give them a chance to experience first-hand a little bit of how I work, and then we'll explore which or if my services are a good fit.
What's your favorite feature of Pepperlane Membership?
The boosts. I get to hear a multitude of challenges and questions that often are relevant to me in some way. And I meet people who might provide services that are useful to me.
